King George VI Field, Kidmore Lane, Denmead, PO7 6 (Same field as the Scout Hut)
Course cost £50 per person.

Course Aims

This course will give you an introduction to archery and get you to a level to shoot a recurve bow confidently at 20 yards. With our Archery GB qualified coach and experienced archers, you will learn in a relaxed and friendly environment. Our classes are small, so you will get plenty of 1 to 1 tuition.
Anyone aged 12 or over is welcome. Juniors under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who must remain present with them whilst they are shooting; this also applies if they subsequently join the club.
The beginner bows are light weight, but it is a physical sport. Should you feel any pain or muscle ache please let your coach know immediately. If you have a disability or medical condition which you think may affect your training, please email us before booking to discuss.
The course will cover the following and more:

  • Archery safety rules
  • Putting the bow together and taking it down
  • Finding your anchor point
  • Shooting practice
  • Shooting with a sight
  • Scoring

Equipment and Clothing

The Club will loan you all the basic equipment required, a recurve bow (left or right handed), arrows, a tab and an armguard, for the duration of the course. We advise novice archers not to rush out and buy equipment however tempting that may be. On completion of your beginners’ course we are able to offer you the opportunity to hire a club bow during the outdoor season, should you continue and join the club.
Clothing should be well fitting tops - no loose sleeves, baggy jumpers, scarves or anything else that could get caught in the Bow (including hair). The field can be a little soggy under foot if it has been raining, so a pair of boots maybe required, we will advise you nearer the time as to the condition of the field. We will still hold the course outdoors in light rain, but if the weather is more severe, we will rearrange the session.

After the Course

On successful completion of your beginners’ course you will be able to join the club. You can hire a bow from the club for the outdoor season until you buy your own. We are a friendly and relaxed club; our coaches will be at hand to offer advice and keep an eye on you helping you continue to improve.
